Earlier in the week we were sent a women’s Craghoppers Endurance Lite Jacket to review. We’ve been wearing the jacket for a few days now for every day errands, and yesterday we went to the Peaks to see how it fared in harsher elements.
The Craghoppers Endurance Lite Jacket we received was grey with a light blue trim. The new jacket is part of Craghoppers’ Active range for spring/summer 2011. Ideal for travellers and backpackers as well as frequent hikers, trail runners and climbers, the jacket is lightweight and comes with its own stuffsac for convenient storage.
On first impressions, the jacket is very light while the fabric is soft and silky to the touch. Made from the company’s Aquadry waterproof and breathable fabric, it offers high levels of performance. Despite it being only a two-layer fabric, the jacket is pretty durable and makes a good protective outer layer.
The Craghoppers Women’s Endurance Lite Jacket has two hand pockets with waterproof zips, and a permanent hood which has a Velcro tab adjuster for a more customised fit. The cuffs can also be adjusted with little Velcro tabs.
After testing the Endurance Lite jacket out in the peaks, we found that it performed well in the rain. It kept us dry while the breathability factor kept us comfortable on our walk. When scrambling at the top of the hills, we found that the jacket gave us enough flexibility and freedom to move, and did not restrict us in any way. On the downside, the jacket does not provide much wind resistance. On colder days, it would be better to wear a wind resistant mid-layer underneath the Endurance Lite Jacket.
The jacket is also ideal for going around town and everyday wear as you will always be prepared for any types of weather. Or it could be stored in a handbag in its stuffsac in preparation for adverse weather.
The stuffsac is especially practical for travellers and backpackers as it means that the jacket can be compressed in order to take as little room as possible in a backpack. However, it appears as though Craghoppers has manufactured these stuffsacs in one size. The Craghoppers Endurance Lite jacket that we received was one of the smaller sizes (size 10). When we rolled it up and put it inside the stuff sac it only took up three quarters of the room. At the top of the stuffsac, a mesh ring provides breathability which means that if you put a damp jacket inside the stuffsac it will dry quickly.
Overall, we thought that the jacket would be perfect for travellers and backpackers. It makes a great outer shell in warmer conditions but if you are looking for a light and flexible outer jacket for colder conditions, it should be worn as part of a three-layer system with a wind resistant mid-layer.Craghoppers Womens Endurance Lite Jacket,
